What it is

Most people have no sustained practice of reflection. Journalling is effortful and text-heavy, and a general AI assistant is built to answer — which quietly moves you into reacting rather than thinking.

Vent sits in the gap: somewhere to say the thing out loud, with no judgement and no reply. Speaking aloud imposes a structure that silent rumination resists, because speech is linear and you cannot loop back through a sentence the way you can loop through a worry. Vent is built by Workband; we think it is worth knowing about.

Hold to release
Record
No titles, no menus. Open the app, hold the button and say what you are feeling. Your phone turns it into text as you speak.
Proof it is private
Vents
The moment you lift your finger the text is encrypted into a hidden vault on your device, and the raw audio is destroyed.
Make sense of the noise
Conversations
An optional on-device model acts as a gentle mirror — untangling rambling thoughts and asking grounding questions, offline.
What happens to your words
Absolute privacy requires real boundaries
You are not asked to trust a privacy policy. The architecture does the work — everything runs on your own device, so your reflections belong only to you.
1
You record
Hold to vent and speak what is on your mind.
2
Vent transcribes on device
Speech becomes text locally. Nothing is sent away for processing.
3
Text is encrypted in your vault
Entries are stored in an encrypted vault you choose on your device.
4
Cached audio is removed
The raw voice recording is wiped after transcription. Only encrypted text remains.
5
Reflection stays in your vault
Optional on-device conversations are encrypted alongside your vents.

How it compares

Same need — somewhere to unburden — with a different architecture, and therefore a different outcome.

Product details may change as Vent develops. The Vent site has the current requirements and FAQ.

Before you start

Vent needs an iPhone 14 or newer, or an Android phone with 6 GB or more of RAM, plus a one-off download of roughly 3.4 GB over Wi-Fi. After that it works offline.

Vent is a reflective practice tool rather than a clinical one. It does not diagnose anything and it does not score your mood. If something you are carrying feels like too much to handle on your own, please speak to someone you trust, or contact local emergency services.
